FAQs

Where do I put my refuse containers out for pick up?

  •  All containers should be placed with wheels against the curb, about three feet apart and three feet away from any vehicle or object, in order to allow the truck's automated gripper arms ample room for pick up.

When do I place my refuse containers out for pick up?

  • Containers should be placed out by 7:00 a.m. on your service day, or the evening before collection. The exception is when your service day falls on a street sweeping day, then place containers on the curb.

What about vehicles parking near my refuse containers?

  • Do not park cars near containers on collection days. If you are having problems with neighbors parking their vehicles in front of, too close to or blocking your containers from being serviced, try placing them in front of your driveway.

Should I bag my refuse?

  • Your containers will stay cleaner, and when picked up on windy days, bagged items and green waste will not blow out of the containers and scatter around your neighborhood.

Can the lids be open on my refuse containers?

  • No. Please do NOT cram material in the containers. The truck cannot empty overfilled containers. Lids MUST BE closed on containers to receive proper service. Lids that are left up on containers tend to come open too soon while being dumped and refuse spills onto the street.

Why and what should I recycle?

  • Recycle as much as possible because it reduces disposal costs and is good for the environment. Most household waste is recyclable and should be placed in the blue container.

What items are NOT allowed in my containers?

  • Do NOT put scrap metal, wood, rocks, dirt, concrete, bricks, tile, carpeting, etc. into your containers. This damages the truck’s packing mechanism because containers that are too heavy will break the automatic arms. Containers filled with these items will not be collected. Please call CR&R for a Rent-A-Bin for these items.

Where can I take household hazardous waste products?

  • Please DO NOT put hazardous waste or toxic materials such as paints, motor oil and anti-freeze into your containers. This pollutes the groundwater under the landfills. Please take these items to the Hazardous Waste Centers in your community. For more information on where you may take hazardous waste products please click on the following link: Household Hazardous Waste.

Which container do I put grass and tree trimmings and food waste in?

  • Grass clippings, food waste and other green waste should be placed in your green container. If you have a gardener, ask him to take the green yard waste and dispose of it for you. This reduces the District's disposal costs.

What are the District's holidays?

  • The District observes the following holidays: New Year’s Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

What happens when my service day falls on or after the holiday?

  • When the holiday falls on or before your service day, the refuse collection will be one day later for the entire week. Service does not change on any other holidays.

Am I responsible for the care of my refuse containers?

  • All containers are the property of the Midway City Sanitary District. Your cooperation in protecting containers from abuse or negligence is appreciated.

If I move, what do I do with my refuse containers?

  • When you move from your current place of residence (even if you move to another residence within Midway City or Westminster) your containers must be left behind for the next resident's use.

When must containers be removed from the curb?

  • In accordance with Ordinance No. 53 of the Midway City Sanitary District: no curbside collection container shall be placed adjacent to a street for collection more than 24 hours prior to collection time. All curbside containers shall be removed from the street location within 12 hours after collection and shall be maintained in an area not visible from the street.

How do I know which containers are assigned to my residence?

  • On the side of each container is a serial number. Please record the numbers of each of your containers for your records. This makes it easier for you to distinguish your containers from your neighbors.

What are my monthly refuse rates?

  • The current monthly refuse rate is $16.31 per unit of service.

What are my monthly sewer rates?

  • The current monthly sewer rate for residential service is $8.37 per unit of service.

How many containers am I allowed?

  • How do I request more containers? Each residence is provided with up to one (1) black, two (2) blue and one (1) green container. If you wish to request an additional container or a larger or smaller container size please contact the District Office Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 714-893-3553.

  • If your containers are damaged, missing, or stolen please contact the District office Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 714-893-3553 and request service for exchange or replacement of your containers. You will need to provide the District's Service Representative with the following information: your address, daytime phone number, what day your refuse service is performed on, and the color and size of the containers you wish to be serviced, and the serial number on the container.
